I think we might have moved to the deep south.

So this heatwave has totally gotta knock it off. I am not  a hater of summer but it is FANK nasty outside, even the dog wants to have nothing to do with this mess.

In other news the moving in process is moving along( har har har). We have gotten all the furniture arranged now its the unpack/pitch/donate phase. It feels really good to get rid of junk, we are going to need to cut even more stuff if we ever plan on moving across country. The dog and cat have even found new favorite hangout spots!

I got to spend some time with  my dad yesterday, it really should happen more often. We went up and looked a 03 Bonneville T100 ( my new obsession), went to a kinda crummy gun show, 2 different smoke shops and finally ended the day with a trip to a steam engine show. It was hot as crap out but I think dad and I both had a blast just hanging out. Here is a link to pictures I took at the steam engine show, i think my favorite shot of the day was the Model A taillight.

We moved AGAIN.

Jack and Izzy are all sacked out. This move has really been a pain, mostly because to the crazy east coast heatwave. The new place is less sq footage, but seems more open and has a TON more closet space. I’ll take more pics after we get all situated and junk.

This photo was taken by Meri..she’s turning into a little shutterbug, maybe she will start posting too!

New Super Cute and Fluffy Addition!!

Meet Isabelle! She was born one April 9th and is a snuggley climbing monkey of a kitten.
Bear Cat!!!!

cuddles

she is really cool…im honestly surprised she has this much personality for being as young as she is. Jack isnt threatened, more curious and honestly kinda bummed something else is getting attention, but we are working with both animals to ensure that they play nice.

A side note, Im really diggin my new point and shoot the canon powershot s90. it honestly fills the roll of i dont have time to grab my slr, but I still have control over MOST things i would on my nikon. this years Seattle trip will seal the deals on both new cameras.

Man did we just skip over spring?

Ill tell you one thing we didn’t skip over, pollen. It has waged a full scale assault on my sinuses and is winning. Allergies are one thing i will for sure not miss about the valley.

Now on to more pressing/ hilarious issues, Jack is a golden retriever. he Had a TON of long heavy curly fur……thats right had.

Poor puppy…..Meri even shaved his tail down( which he is pissed about). but he’s no where near as hot as he was, and hopefully wont shed as much now.

P.S.- that is NOT my case of Natty, it was left here after Meri’s bday party.

I Wish All Weekends Were This Laid Back

Man this past weekend was sooooooo nice. Meri and I both had the weekend off and we stayed in town. Saturday we got up a bit early and went to the Harrisonburg farmers market. There really wasn’t any produce there, mostly starter plants, hippy crafty stuff, and some homemade foods. We bought Jack a hippy dog toy, a loaf of sprouted wheat bread, and some really good jam.Later on we went out to the Dayton famers market, which isn’t so much a farmers market, more like an indoor market with some food, and more home/ antique stuff. For dinner we grilled pork chops with some of the spices we bought at the Dayton farmers market. Oh and we got boxed sangria…i know i know, i work for JMU i dont go there. We added fruit to it and it was pretty good. It was pretty cold out so i built a fire in the fireplace so we could eat by the grill, but the wind picked up and was still too cold :(
It was the LAZIEST SUNDAY EVER! We didn’t get out of bed until 2:30, oops. Weeds is a dangerous, dangerous show to watch. We ended up watching 2 seasons, Jack even watched, he’s been doing that recently. The cars were both green with pollen, so Meri and I washed em both, that was the only real thing we did all day. I had forgotten how nice it was to just have a low key weekend with my wife and fuzzy son.

So i did it, i bought an Ipad.

First off I have unboxing pics…but seriously how many times can you look at the same packaging and think, ” Oh crap, i need to read that blog!!!”? If you want unboxings go here.

OK i know i said no way willl i buy one for me, but im glad i did. I know im going to have to support these beasties and its not in the cards for me to get one from work. Also i wanted an ebook reader, and this one was available to be put on my computer loan at work…so i said eff it lets do this. The 32gb was instock and i walked away with it.

ok SO, heres what i have to say about the “magical ” device. It IS more capable than I honesty expected.

BIG ipod touch?…hell no, seriously go play with one and youll see WAY more capable.

A netbook is better? At some things yes, daily stuff i do on my netbook, ill pick up the Ipad. Working on my memoirs, netbook/real laptop. Typing isn’t perfect but tolerable, checking email/ sending a quick reply is a dream, aim works well, skip the iphone version of facebook and just go to the webpage, you get the full version, not the mobile version of the page.

Facebook app, scaled up of course:

And Facebook via safari:

I might go further in depth later but my initial impression is that it’s a great device with a ton of potential in the future.

P.S. The last half of this was typed out and had pics added via the WordPress app!

Im struggling with what to do

I have had a mobile me account for 2 years now, heck i used to host my site there. I use the web gallery and back to my mac frequently, but im having a really hard time justifying $99.99 ($65.00 ish if you can find an older package on amazon) per year for those two features and only getting 20gb of online storage is kinda crappy. I do realize the Idisk feature is hard to replicate without having actual server hardware, but there are free/ MUCH better deals for all the things that mobile me does, with just a bit more hassle.

-Web gallery for example can be handled by flicker( pro is $25 bucks a year), or picasa ( 200gb of storage for $50 BUCKS!!! CLICKY ).
-Contact sync is being handled by google because of my droid (free)
-I can use ssh or even vnc ( with a little work, but my time is free to me) for back to my mac
-I never really used the mail function, and have mail at my domain , courtesy of gmail (free)
-my iphone is a fancy ipod touch so the find my iphone stuff isnt really useful.
-Idisk is great but if im using ssh/vnc…then ill just serve stuff off my desktop/ i have server space at work if its work related.

I just cant see spending the money every year. im not saying its not a good product, because it has served me well….i just think i have out grown the limited services it provides.

thoughts or suggestions?
